What Is Matter Casting? How does it work?
Whether it’s Apple, Google, or Amazon, smart home platforms have a long history of ensnaring customers in an environment that restricts their ability to buy third-party devices. But these three digital behemoths banded together to create Matter, an open standard for smart homes, after realizing the problem.
Any producer may design items according to this standard, which gives consumers additional options. Amazon is also adding Matter Casting compatibility to its devices, so customers can project information from their phones or tablets to their TVs, which is in keeping with these initiatives.
What makes it different from Chromecast and AirPlay?
The casting capabilities are unchanged, but compatibility is where the difference resides. For example, you can’t use AirPlay on an Android smartphone to send content to a Mac or Apple TV since only Apple devices are compatible with it.
Matter Casting fills this need by presenting itself as an open casting standard that programmers can easily include into their goods. On top of that, it’s completely free and helps make devices from various manufacturers more compatible with each other.
Does Matter Casting work for you right now?
The Amazon Prime app and the Echo Show 15 are the first devices to support Matter Casting, and shortly, a number of FireTV devices will be added to the list. With this in mind:
- Launch Amazon Video on both devices and make sure they’re on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Press the “cast” button on the Prime Video app.
- Click on the television that best suits your tastes.
- Keep in mind that Matter Casting is working on adding support for casting music or podcasts on speakers, but at the moment it doesn’t.
Are current televisions and electronics compatible with the standard?
Since Matter doesn’t need any more hardware, manufacturers may easily add Matter functionality to their current products by just updating their software. Amazon is now spearheading efforts to increase acceptance, working with services such as Plex, Pluto TV, Sling TV, STARZ, and ZDF to integrate the standard before the end of the year.
But keep in mind that not all firms are as committed to pushing updates for older devices as Amazon is.
